Why is there an outage?

These services will be unavailable due to major maintenance on our main library management system. This is the system that keeps track of all of your checkouts, your library card, and any holds we have. Once this system is back online we expect everything to be back to normal.

What if I can't pick up my Hold, or return my book this weekend?

Since this is a planned disruption, all hold pickup dates have been extended, as will due dates. That said, our Library has permanently ended overdue fees for our items, so feel free to take the extra time this weekend.

Will Anything be different after this?

Library visitors won't notice anything different after this maintenance (Library staff may, but requires a full and boring explanation).

What's the full, Boring Explanation?

This maintenance involves moving the servers that manage our library system (and many other systems in Southern Ontario) to a new data centre. Since the physical servers are being moved, any software that would normally check in with those servers to see if your card is valid, or just keep track of checkouts, won't have anything to talk to. We have been told this process should be complete by Monday February 21st, at which point all of our systems will be able to contact the servers again.
