Come Splurge With US at the Giant Used Book Sale! (September 16th- 17th)
Here at the library, we are very busy behind the scenes getting ready for an extremely important event (for book lovers, that is). Can you guess what is happening? Our Giant Used Book Sale, of course! After an almost three-year hiatus, we are so excited to offer patrons the opportunity to acquire even more books! We know that we could not hope to make this a reality without the time and effort offered by the stellar individuals who make up the board of the East Gwillimbury Friends of the Library.
But who are the Friends of the Library, you might ask?
They are a not-for-profit, charitable organization who “organizes events and raises money for much-needed enhancements of library programming and materials.” This group was formed in 2002, and by 2004 it had launched their Author Reading series, enabling them to bring world-class authors to have them connect with the people of East Gwillimbury.
They help to raise money through many initiatives; the book sale represents the largest fundraising effort put on by our amazing Friends group. It was originally started by the Friends of the Library to help raise funds for many different library initiatives. It went on for several years until it was put on hold. Then it was restarted by the Friends of the Library Board, in consultation with the East Gwillimbury Public Library. It used to be held in alternating locations; one year it would happen at Holland Landing, and the next year at Mount Albert. The photo you see below is from the book sale which happened at Mount Albert on April 28th, 2007.

If you have any time, we hope you can join us at our book sale. It will happen on September 16th from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm, and on Saturday September 17th from 9 am to 4 pm. We have lots of materials to peruse, from the hottest new reads to older classics, nonfiction to young adult novels, CD’s, DVDs, and so much more. There will even be some items to bid on in a silent auction; what more could one wish for? More books, obviously!
We look forward to seeing you at our Giant Used Book Sale!
